Originally from Decatur, Dr. Sams went to Mt. Zion High School. After finishing his pre-med studies at Indiana State University, he received his medical degree from Southern Illinois University - School of Medicine in Springfield, IL. He completed his orthopedic surgery residency in Springfield, IL at the Southern Illinois University program.

His special interests include joint reconstruction of the hip, knee, and shoulder, sports medicine, and trauma.

In his free time, Dr. Sams enjoys spending time with his family. He enjoys golf and working outdoors.
